Individual Training Policy

For the safety of the coach and children involved prior, during, and after training, it is vital all parties follow our Individual Training Policy below:

"Individual Training" is either set up through our website "Request an Individual," or directly with the coach requested by the recipient. The Player Project does not collect any fees or dues from the coach running the "Individual Training." Therefore, the coach overseeing the "Individual Training" is responsible for any liability that occurs during the training - The Player Project will not cover and is not responsible for any damages, liability, or loss. We encourage coaches to charge per hour, not per player; however, it is up to the coach running the "Individual Training" to set their rate.

The coach in charge of the "Individual Training" will coordinate with the parent or guardian who is requesting the "Individual Training" to agree on a location, day, and time for the training. It is against policy for the coach to directly communicate with a minor (by any form of communication off the field, including but not limited to text, call, social media, etc.) unless the coach is given written permission by the parent or guardian, and has sent the written permission to leadership at The Player Project. Similarly, on the field we expect our coaches to use positive and encouraging language. A coach should never curse or use inappropriate language while coaching, and is also encouraged to maintain these values in all aspects of their life.

Please train at a public space. It is important you do not train on private property unless given permission by the owner or pay the cost to rent the space. Additionally, if signs at the location state you must have a permit to train, do not train there unless you are given permission.

Train at a place that is open and visible to the public. It is against policy to train in a closed space that cannot be observed or interrupted. We ask the parent or guardian stay within eyesight during the training. If the parent or guardian decides to leave the field or location (e.g. go for a walk, do work in the car, etc.) the coach must train in a place that is close to and within eyesight of the public. If a minor requests a bathroom break, it is permissible to walk the child to the bathroom; however, you must stay in eyesight of the public and not enter the bathroom unless it is a clear and immediate emergency. Notify the parent or guardian first (by phone call) before taking action if time permits. If it is a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately. In most cases, the bathroom is within eyesight of the field, so it is permissible to allow the player to go to the bathroom but watch from where you are set up to train. Child/player safety is our top priority, so make sure the player(s) stays within eyesight and you are watching for the entirety of their break until they come back to the area you are training.

Coaches are not to touch the children unless for an appropriate encouraging moment (high five, fist bump, pat on the shoulder, etc.) and the coach is never permitted to touch the children or adult (if training a player over 18) in a private or inappropriate area of the body. The coach is also permitted to touch the participating players if needed for coaching correction and is given consent. For example, teaching ball-striking technique, the coach asks for permission and it is given to touch the laces of the player's shoes as well as adjust the angle of the player's foot to "point your toe and lock your ankle." when shooting the ball. Likewise, a GK coach might ask for permission to adjust a goalkeeper's hands to teach proper handling technique. If no consent is given, the coach is not permitted to touch the player participating.

Because both the coach and parent/guardian/child(ren) might be meeting for the first time, if at any point the coach or parent/guardian/child(ren) feel in danger upon arrival at the agreed field or location, they do not need to leave their car or mode of transportation and step foot onto the field or location. It is permitted they can leave immediately if they feel any sense of danger. If this happens, please let leadership at The Player Project know and we will take appropriate steps - again, safety for our players and coaches is our top priority.

Once training is over, the coach overseeing the "Individual Training" must not leave the field or location until every child has been accounted for and picked up by their parent or guardian. If you are waiting past your agreed upon training time, please remain with the child or children in a open and visible to the public space.

The coach will be paid directly by the parent/guardian of the participant, or the player themselves. It is the coach's responsibility to collect payment based on their set and agreed upon rate. The Player Project does not pay coaches for "Individual Training," and payments for "Individual Training" should not go to The Player Project.

We hope your Individual Training is an enjoyable and valuable experience since we know how rewarding Individuals are for the development of a player and coach!
